Wenge Ni "Xi Shi" Yixing Teapot by Jin Jia Qi

This charming Yixing-style teapot is made from Wenge Ni (文革泥), an early, semi-handmade category of zisha clay associated with the Cultural Revolution era. Most examples of this clay originate from the Dingshu area of Yixing and are based on traditional purple clay / qing shui ni recipes (often collectively processed at the time using relatively foundational refining methods).

Because some batches were fired at slightly lower kiln temperatures, this type of clay can display a subtly more open, relaxed texture, a character that many collectors appreciate for its earthy warmth and approachable, unpretentious feel.

  • Material: Wenge Ni 文革泥, zisha-based purple clay

  • Color: warm chestnut-brown with natural mineral depth

  • Form: Xi Shi 西施壶

  • Finish: smooth satin sheen with fine mineral speckling

  • Craft: semi-handmade by Jin Jia Qi

This makes it an ideal teapot for drinkers who love floral, fruity, or mineral aromatics, and who prefer a cup that is lifted and articulate rather than heavy and muted.

Best for

  • Ripe Pu-erh

  • Aged Raw Pu-erh

  • Hei Cha (Dark Teas)

  • Roasted Oolongs

About Jin Jia Qi (金家棋)

Jin Jia Qi: a young ceramic artist, born into a family with a long tradition in the ceramic arts. Influenced by art from an early age, he developed a strong interest in teapot making. After graduating from high school, he devoted himself fully to the field of Yixing zisha teapot creation, systematically studying both craftsmanship and design.

During this period, he received careful guidance from several masters. Combined with his own inspiration and intuition for zisha creation, he built a very solid technical foundation. His works preserve traditional elements while also showing innovation, respecting the past while pursuing authenticity. They are naturally refined and elegant, with smooth lines and delicate detailing, forming his own unique teapot-making style.

His works have been invited to exhibitions many times and have won numerous awards, and they are highly favored by collectors.
